about

Taking inspiration from the playful elements of Ben Folds and the lyrical sound of Sara Bareilles, 22 tells the story of what it is to be surprised by the reality of the difficulty of the real world outside of the bubble of college.

lyrics

Everybody says that you'll be fine
You'll work it out, it gets better in time
I promise you,
But I've been hearing that for so many years
Frankly I don't think I have any more tears
Left to cry, I'll tell you why
"life is hard" a fact everyone knows
but I swear some people get rich just by passing go

All I wanna do is drink some wine,
Doesn't have to be expensive, boxed would be fine
But I can't afford it, because I can't find a job
Got a nice offer just recently
To move home with my parents and live for free
But I passed it up, cause I'm trying hard
to show the world just who I can be
So far all I've done is learn how not to burn mac 'n cheese.

So I'll check my profile on "Linked In"
And make some more connections
Take the GRE and pray as I apply to grad school that I'll get in
Move multiple times in a matter of months
Go to all my friends weddings and stand at the front,
Temporary walls, temporary homes
Nothing temporary bout this pile of loans and
Oh what am I supposed to do...
Cause I'm already and only 22.

There's something beautiful and tragic
about the frequency with which I cry in public
But it's getting old, and melodramatic
Me and this state yeah we've been acquainted
For far too long think it's time we separated
And parted ways, though it's been a good stay.
Think it's high time that I took a good look to see
why 6 months anywhere is way too long for me.
